Atticus, the lifesaving T-shirt. Toma: «Innovate to compete»Campobasso, 24 ottobre 2018 – It is called Atticus and is a project aimed at developing a hardware and software system, based on artificial intelligence, able to constantly monitor an individual and to notice anomalies that affect both his state of health, It’s his behavior, too.
He was nominated by the Molise Region, leader of a public-private partnership, in connection with a MIUR Notice for the submission of industrial research and experimental development projects.
But how does Atticus work? A device “smart wearable”, that is a wearable garment made with innovative tissues, acquires in a non-invasive way the vital parameters of the person (ECG, GSR, respiratory behaviors, haemoglobin saturation) and transmits them to an electronic device integrated in the fabric that, besides processing locally the acquired data, is able to analyze the displacements both in the house and outside of the user.
The data is sent to a device of “ambient intelligence”, a home station capable of analyzing the measurement data in real time, using artificial intelligence algorithms and identifying abnormal situations.
Any anomaly detected shall be sent to a decision support system for subsequent verification and, in the event of confirmation of the alert, the system shall alert a central rescue operation, providing the paths, in real time, sensors that produced the anomaly.
Atticus is able to operate in different application scenarios.
The project presented by the Molise Region has fallen into the “silver economy”, the economy of the over 60, with the aim of monitoring vital parameters and behaviour of elderly people by promoting safety, health, active ageing and home care.
These are the projects we like, comments Governor Toma– and on which we are convinced we want to invest. Projects that tell of an enterprising Molise, able to react to the crisis and be competitive in the markets. There are no lack of intelligences, our young people are second to none, you just have to accompany them and support them in their start up, when these are original and innovative».
«Amongst other things – points out Toma – Atticus envisages the creation of a monitoring centre which can have a positive impact on employment, whereas its operation requires doctors and staff responsible for the management of alarms, as well as technicians for the control and evolution of the system».
